It increases the strength of the heart muscle, and helps to remove excess water from the body. Digoxin can reduce the symptoms of congestive heart failure, a condition that reduces the ability of the heart to pump enough blood through the body. Symptoms such as include swelling of the feet and legs, difficulty breathing, and extreme tiredness or weakness. Lanoxin is usually prescribed along with a water pill and a drug known as ACE inhibitor. It belongs to a class of drugs known as digitalis glycosides. Digoxin is extracted from the leaves of a plant known as digitalis lanata. Lanoxin helps the heart to beat more strongly and regularly.
