Flexeril Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Generic Name: Cyclobenzaprine hydrochloride

CYCLOBENZAPRINE (Flexeril®) is a muscle relaxant. It works by bloking nerve impulses that are sent to your brain. It helps to relieve pain and stiffness in muscles and can treat muscle spasms. Cyclobenzaprine, a muscle relaxant and it is used with rest, physical therapy, and other measures to relax muscles and relieve pain and may caused by strains, sprains, and other muscle injuries. cyclobenzaprine relieves muscle spasm when the spasm is due to local problems.

Flexeril Dosage

The usual dose is 10 milligrams 3 times a day and you should not take more than 60 milligrams a day.

Uses of Flexeril

• Flexeril is used to treat pain, tenderness, and limited motion that may caused by muscle spasms.
• You can also used medication together with rest and physical therapy for short-term treatment.
• It is also used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Side Effects of Flexeril

If you are using Flexeril, then discuss the side effects of Flexeril with your doctor and if you feel any develop or change in intensity, then tell your doctor immediately. Side effects of Flexeril may include:

• Abnormal heartbeats
• fainting
• abnormal sensations
• excitement
• abnormal thoughts or dreams
• double vision
• aggressive behavior
• disorientation
• agitation
• difficulty speaking
• anxiety
• difficulty falling or staying asleep
• diarrhea
• depressed mood
• bloated feeling
• decreased appetite
• blurred vision
• confusion
• constipation
• convulsions

Warnings and precautions before taking Flexeril:

• After taking Flexeril medicine, then you may feel some sleepy or drowsy or less alert. So do not perform any activities that require alertness such as drive or operate dangerous machinery.
• If you are taking prescription and nonprescription drugs especially medications for depression, seizures, allergies, coughs, or colds, then tell your doctor. Because it may cause serious effects.
• Before using this medicine, consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you have overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism), irregular heartbeats (arrhythmia), other heart problems (congestive heart failure, heart block or conduction disorders), recent heart attack, moderate.

Drug Interaction:- If you are taking certain drugs with Flexeril, then it may be increased, decreased, or altered the effects of Flexeril. So discuss with your doctor before combining Flexeril with the following:

• Barbiturates such as phenobarbital
  
• Guanethidine and other high blood pressure drugs
  
• Other drugs that slow the central nervous system, such as Halcion and Xanax
  
• Tramadol (Ultram)

Overdose

After taking Flexeril, If you feel that overdose is suspected, then contact with your doctor immediately. Symptoms of Flexeril overdose may include:

• Agitation
• confusion
• convulsions
• disturbed concentration
• hallucinations
• increased heartbeats
• muscle stiffness
• severe low blood pressure
• stupor
• vomiting
